The Makah live on the very western tip of the state of Washington. They have a lively basketry tradition in which they use grass and dyed grass to create round forms with lids and flat bottoms. In some instances, they used designs such as birds, fish and boats as decoration. The vast majority of these baskets are relatively small and were made specifically to be sold in cities such as Seattle, Tacoma, Vancouver and Victoria.
