The Language Resources Museum to Open in the Hunan Museum
Language is the most pivotal communication tool and information carrier of human society, the basic element and distinct symbol of culture. With the strong support of the Ministry of Education and People’s Government of Hunan Province, the Chinese Language Resources Museum, which is the first of its kind, will soon open.
The Language Resources Museum is the great achievement of national project of language and culture,"Language Resources Protection Project in China", which is positioned as a convergence and display center of Chinese excellent language and culture, an important research base of superb language and culture, a public service platform of high-quality language and culture, and a fully interactive and developing intelligent museum. It is proposed to feature a brick-and-mortar museum, based on the distinctive characteristics of language resources, such as dissemination, diffusion and non-object, and reasonably apply the advanced scientific and technological means in the era of digital intelligence，to explore the creation of a novel curatorial path integrating immersive display area,fusion display area, and experiential display area, so as to provide the public with immersive and interactive experience, and to make the excellent Chinese language and culture that has transcended the millenniums to be preserved for posterity and passed on to the next generation.
In September 2018, the inaugural International Conference “Role of Linguistic Diversity in Building a Global Community with Shared Future”, jointly organized by UNESCO, the Ministry of Education, the National Language Commission and the People’s Government of Hunan Province, was successfully held in Changsha, Hunan Province, and adopted the "Yuelu Proclamation on the Preservation and Promotion of Linguistic Diversity in the World", which provides Chinese solutions, Chinese wisdom and Chinese experience for the "preservation and promotion of linguistic diversity in the world". The legacy of the this conference will be permanently preserved in the China Language Resources Museum, which will provide a platform for in-depth cooperation between China and UNESCO and other international organizations.
The Hunan Museum is the first batch of national-level museum, one of the eight key museum representing the Chinese regional civilization jointly built by the central and local governments, with an annual audience capacity of more than 3.5 million, and is now one of the most influential museums in China and ranks among the international advanced museums. It is reported that relevant departments will actively mobilize all sectors of society to devote to the construction of the museum on the basis of the existing achievements of protection project of China’s language resources and the Hunan Museum, and strive to build a language museum with Chinese characteristics, focusing on presenting the construction and development of China’s language resources protection, and contributing to the inheritance and development of China’s outstanding language and culture, the promotion of cultural prosperity, the construction of a strong cultural country, and the construction of a modern civilization of China.
