On the afternoon of 7 March, the educators of Hunan Provincial Museum came to Datong Primary School and delivered a special class themed on "Welcome to Museum" to the schoolchildren there, intending to facilitate students in utilizing the museum items more reasonably and effectively while conducting "Inquiry Learning on Museum Objects" activities. "Inquiry Learning on Museum Objects" is a learning activity in which students take one single or a set of museum object models as their study content to explore them. This activity amis to improve students’ abilities of observing and thinking, hands-on skills and to help them develop the enterprising spirit of innovation through their own initiative inquiries.

Different from the classroom teaching before, this education activity attached more importance to the interaction between teachers and students. When the educators asked "What do you think museum is ?" and "What are the dos and don’ts while you tour in Museum?", the schoolchildren grouped into different teams on the basis of their respective interests: Painting Team, Science Team, Museum Team, etc. were eager to answer these questions after they reflected on them and exchanged ideas with each other. And then the educators gave out accurate answers and commented on the ideas voiced by the students. The whole process was permeated with liveliness. Such interactive teaching will not only help the students make the habit of initiative thinking and equip them with a better understanding of Museum, but also fill them with the sheer expectation for the coming museum tours.

This education activity is a prelude to the education program "Research on the Active Effects of Inquiry Learning on Museum Objects Activities on Primary School Students’ All-round Abilities", aiming to promote the development of students’ all-round abilities through the collaborative efforts of Hunan Provincial Museum with educational advantages and Datong Primary School with teaching features. The program is also part of the project entitled "Research on the Application of Museum Resources in the Development of Students’ All-round Abilities", initiated by the education center of Hunan Provincial Museum.
