"Fun Museum” Kid’s Educational Activity Held by Hunan Provincial Museum

On December 21, 2012, an educational activity themed on “fun museum”, co-organized by Education Center of Hunan Provincial Museum and New Star Bilingual Kindergarten (Changsha), was held at the Golden Coast Kindergarten, in the hope of promoting the influence on public welfare and facilitating the kids’ educational program of the museum.

Many children and their parents took part in this activity, which comprised two sections, “lead-in” and “interaction”. During “lead-in”, educators from Hunan Provincial Museum and teachers in this kindergarten explained what a museum is through video. During the “interaction”, children, with the help of their parents, created a museum model in their own mind. They gave full play to their own imagination and did elaborate work. Each designed museum model was unique and full of creativity. Children and parents had a lot of fun together during the section.

To achieve the expected effect, a lot of preparation work was conducted by the staff from Education Center of Hunan Provincial Museum. They had contacted with the teachers in this kindergarten and learned something about the teaching approaches towards children. All the explanation and illustration were in simple Chinese so that children could easily understand. Much attention was paid to the selection of materials and arrangements of the places. What’s more, a survey on parents’ ideas toward education in museum was conducted, which would provide useful information for the future establishment of children’s educational program of Hunan Provincial Museum after its Renovation and Expansion Project.

This activity received positive responses from both parents and teachers in the kindergarten, who had expressed their willingness to participate in the children’s educational activities organized by Hunan Provincial Museum so as to nurture children’s interests in museum, history, culture and art.
