An Art Class in Hunan Provincial Museum
On the morning of October 29, an art class, co-designed by Donghui Primary School and Hunan Provincial Museum, was held on the theme of “Over a Thousand Years of Painting History--Paintings Exhibition of Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties (960 A.D.-1912A.D.)”.
Schoolchildren are carefully listening to the teacher’s introduction.
To begin with, teachers guided the students to tour around the paintings in the exhibition hall, teaching them how to appreciate the beauty and the developing history of Chinese traditional paintings. An elaborately designed "lightning round" was followed: the teachers, first of all, introduced the features of Chinese ancient buildings; then students were divided into several teams to compete to answer the questions about the architectural features and styles in the paintings. Passing-by visitors as well as parents were deeply infected by the enthusiastic and lively atmosphere. In the final section, four groups of students cooperatively made DIY traditional Chinese ink-and-wash paintings titled “Ancient Buildings in my Hometown”. The students’ paintings portraying pavilions, terraces, towers, bridges and flowing streams, immature and crude as they are, are quite distinctive and charming.

As this art class drew to an end, students’ paintings were analyzed and evaluated and certificate was awarded to encourage their enthusiasm for paintings.
This activity not only provides an opportunity for the students to get in close contact with the traditional culture, but also lays the foundation of practical experiences for the development and improvement of the educational activities in future.
