2010 Annual Meeting of Hunan Society of Museums & Seminar on “Museum’s Free Opening” Held in Ningxiang

On September 25-27, 2010 Annual Meeting of Hunan Society of Museums & Seminar on “Museum’s Free Opening” was held in Xingxiang County, Hunan Province. Over 80 representatives from Hunan’s museums and memorials attended this meeting.

The sixth Standing Board of the Society opened its third session and second plenary session on September 25 to review 2010 Working Reports submitted by Society Secretariat, examine the name list of new applicants for membership and discuss the setting up of 2011 Provincial Preservation Training Class as well as the time, place and organizers of 2011 Annual Meeting.

On the morning of September 26, the opening ceremony was held in Comrade Liu Shaoqi Memorial, Huaminglou. Chen Jianming, the director of Hunan Provincial Museum and chairman of the Society, He Qiang, the deputy director of Hunan Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau, Liu Hong, vice chairman of Hunan Provincial Federation of Social Science attended and addressed the ceremony. Six representatives respectively from Comrade Mao Zedong Memorial, Shaoshan, Yiyang City Museum, Surrender Accepting Memorial for the Victory of Chinese People’s Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Leiyang City Cultural Relics Bureau, Comrade Liu Shaoqi Memorial and Hunan Provincial Museum keynoted the meeting and introduced the working experiences, lessons and new explorations of their institutions after free opening. On the afternoon, representatives were divided into three groups, each assigned to discuss and exchange ideas upon the topics of “Free-opening: the Innovation and Development of Museum”, “Free-opening: the Updating and Innovation of Museum Educational Conception” and “Free-opening: Exhibition, Service, Exchange and Cooperation of Museum”.
