An Evening Cocktail Party Held in Hunan Provincial Museum
Experts at home and abroad toast for the exhibition.
On the evening of November 29, an evening cocktail party titled “From the Collections of Uffizi Gallery--The Genres of Painting-Landscape, Still Life & Portrait Paintings” was ceremoniously held on the first floor of New Exhibition Building of Hunan Provincial Museum.
This exhibition, held on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Italy and China, comes just in time and is of special significance. According to Antonio Natali, curator of Uffizi Gallery, the idea behind this exhibition is to spread the knowledge of Italian and western art in an immense country of ancient and noble traditions, in the conviction that nothing better than knowledge can foster the growth of human relations between peoples of different cultures.

Liu Xiaobao, deputy director of Hunan Provincial Museum, presided over the opening party. Liu Chun, deputy director of our museum, Patrizia Tarchi, assistant curator of Italian Uffizi Gallery, James Kang, CEO of China-Italy Museum League (Beijing) Culture Media Co., Ltd., addressed the ceremony, highly acclaiming the exhibition of “Collections from Uffizi Gallery” as a grand event in Hunan culture and art circle and a priceless gift to people of Italy and China from museum community. A toast was made for the exhibition by Jiang Ruzhen, assistant secretary general of Hunan General Office, Zhang Zhichu, vice minister of Hunan Publicity Office, Zhang Caihui, director of Discipline Inspection Office of Hunan Culture Department, Fu Huaxing, deputy director of Hunan Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, He Qiang, deputy director general of Hunan Administration of Cultural Heritage, pushing the party to a climax.

It is reported that since Uffizi Gallery was set up in 1857, only about 40 pieces of paintings had been displayed in the United States and Spain outside of Italy. While this exhibition in Changsha, from November 30, 2010 to February 27, 2011, will present a fine assembly of as many as 82 precious paintings, providing Changsha and its neighboring cities with a golden opportunity to appreciate such marvelous masterpieces. It is the third stop in China after Shanghai Museum and Hubei Museum.
