The painting art of the Qing Dynasty followed the developmental trend of the painting art of the Yuan and the Ming Dynasties on the one hand, and literati painting became the mainstream artistic trend on the other hand. The technique of freehand brushwork by using ink and wash were widely employed, especially in the landscape painting. Under the influence of the literati painting, more and more painters began to seek the spice of the painting , adopting all kinds of styles and techniques, thus, a prosperous scene was formed.
Pine and Deer by Badashanren
paper scroll Length 354cm width 132cm Badashanren (1626-1705? Still alive at 80), with his real name Zhu Da, was born in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. As a descendant of Prince Zhu Quan in the Ming Dynasty, he went to be a monk after the collapse of Ming and later abandoned his previous calling. Silk scroll Length32.5cm width25.5cm Yun Shouping(1633-1690), initially named Ge, with the courtesy name Shouping and assumed name Nantian, was born in Wujin (now Changzhou in Jiangsu province). He led a life by selling pictures. His poems were elegant, while his calligraphy represents his masculine character. He did his best works in painting landscape and flowers. Being one of the six masters in the early Qing dynasty, his “boneless” painting technique on flowers were widely admired.Part:

silk scroll Length189cm width131cm Yuan yao, (with unidentified date of birth and death), with the courtesy name Zhaodao, was a citizen of Jiangdu (now Yangzhou). He was the cousin of Yuan Jiang. He was an official in the Ruyi Palace during the reign of Qianlong. He excelled in painting flowers, birds and landscape, especially in pavilions and palaces. He was a common person and led a life from hand to mouth by selling pictures. He was versed in poetry, cursive-styled calligraphy and good at painting figures.
