Paintings of the Qing Dynasty
   (A.D. 1644 --- A.D. 1911)
  The painting art of the Qing Dynasty followed the developmental trend of the painting art of the Yuan and the Ming Dynasties on the one hand, and literati painting became the mainstream artistic trend on the other hand. The technique of freehand brushwork by using ink and wash were widely employed, especially in the landscape painting. Under the influence of the literati painting, more and more painters began to seek the spice of the painting , adopting all kinds of styles and techniques, thus, a prosperous scene was formed.

Pine and Deer by Badashanren

  Badashanren (1626-1705? Still alive at 80), with his real name Zhu Da, was born in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. As a descendant of Prince Zhu Quan in the Ming Dynasty, he went to be a monk after the collapse of Ming and later abandoned his previous calling. He was good at painting the landscape, birds and flowers, with a kind of ironic spice.
