From Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00—17:00 (last entry at 16:00); the museum is closed on Mondays (except statutory holidays) and on Chinese Lunar New Year's Eve.

    Visiting Information

    1.The museum is free to the public except for some special exhibitions.

    2.Please get a free ticket with valid certificate (passport) at the Ticket Office first. 

    3.Security check is required before entering into the museum.

    4.Children under the age of 12 shall be accompanied by parents or relatives. 

    5.Senior citizens, the disabled, pregnant women, people with complimentary tickets and museum members with valid documents may enter the museum through the green passage.

    Rules and Regulations

    1. Inflammable, explosive or dangerous items and other legally–forbidden goods are strictly prohibited. 

    2.Security check is required before entering into the galleries.

    3.No foods or Beverage in the galleries 

    4. Visitors having difficulty in walking shall be accompanied by guardians.

    5. Children under the age of 12 shall be accompanied by parents or guardians. 

    6. Visitors shall be appropriately dressed. People with mental disorder are not allowed to enter the museum.

    7. Some floor in the galleries is slippery and the lighting in some sections is not very bright. Please be cautious. 

    8. No filming or video recording. No Flash. Selfie sticks and tripods are also prohibited. 

    9. Do not touch the exhibits. Anyone who damages the exhibits or facilities shall be subject to legal liability. 

    10. Please protect the public facilities. Smoking, making noises, climbing or lying on the ground are not allowed in the galleries. 

    11. Please keep clean of the public space in the museum and do not litter. 

    12. Please observe public order and do not wear roller skates or any kinds of roller shoes.

    13. During major events, please follow the instructions of the museum staff. 


    Guided Tours

    1. Guided tours by museum staff free of charge
    In order to improve visitors’ understanding of the permanent exhibitions, the museum will arrange docents or volunteers to provide guided tours to visitors free of charge during the open hours. 


    1.The starting points of the guided tours are at the entrances of the galleries of permanent exhibitions.

    2.The length of the guided tours lasts about 1.5 hours.

    3.The guided tours free of charge is not designed for any specific person or group.

    4.Within 10 minutes after the set time of each guided tour, if no visitor shows up, then the guided tour is cancelled. 

    Audio Guide
    Visitor can use the APP WeChat on their smart phone to scan the QR code in the gallery to access the information of exhibit and the audio guide. Therefore, they can conduct self-guided tours.


    Other Services and Facilities 

    Reception Service: consultation service, direct drinking water facilities, chairs and benches, parking space for vehicles and non-motorized vehicles. The museum also provides visitors with lockers, wheels, prams and crutches free of charge. 

    Guided tours and interpretation: there are free multi-language guide maps, and exhibition leaflets written in Chinese and English. Docents of various languages, touch screens and APP with multi-language interpretation services are also available. 

    Education and Interactive Service: lectures, children-oriented activities, hands-on activities and interactive multimedia programs are held all year around. 

    Leisure Business Service: Restaurant, Café, Tea House, Souvenir Shop, Bookstore, Post office and public telephones can all be found in the museum.

    Parking Lot: vehicles will be charged according to the standards set by the Pricing Agency. 

    Accidents: personal accident insurance regarding the visitor is covered. Over-the-counter medicine and bandages are readily available. If an emergency occurs, the staff will call an ambulance to send the visitor to the nearest public hospital.

    2.Buses:No. 131, No.112, No.146, No.150, No.358, No.113, No.901, No.136, No.203


    Metro Line 1: get off at Peiyuanqiao Station Exit No. 2, and then take the buses No.112 or No. 222, or No. 901 to reach the museum. 

    Metro Line 2: get off at Yingbin Road Station Exit No. 5, and then take buses No. 131, or No. 113, or No. 146 to reach the museum. 

    4.From the Airport:

    Option A: Take the airport shuttle bus at Changsha Huanghua International Airport to the Civil Aviation Hotel and then transfer the Bus No. 136 to the Hunan Museum. Walk to the north for about 300 meters, and then you can arrive at the gate of the museum. 

    Option B: take the maglev train from Changsha Huanghua International Airport and arrive at Changsha South Railway Station. Then transfer Metro Line Two and get off at Yingbin Road Station. Take buses No. 131 or No. 113 to get off at the Hunan Museum bus stop. Walk to the north for about 300 meters, and then you can arrive at the gate of the museum.
